Eight students from Aldryn College- School of Lunar Magics, perished in the Dovermere sea caves. One survived.
Emory, the surviving student, has been left with confusing and dangerous powers.
Enlisting the help of her best friend's brother, Emory tries to navigate her new found abilities, while making shocking discoveries about her school, and herself.

This was going to be it.
This book has everything I love.
Dark academia
Magical abilities
Power hungry villains
A splash of romance

I was so excited, and then I wasn't.
It took me over a month to read this.
And while that may not sound like a lot. If I was enjoying this, I would have finished it in a few days.
This just was not what I wanted.

this book is far from the worst thing i’ve ever read but it just didn’t really work for me. you can tell the author did a LOT of work with the worldbuilding but unfortunately the execution fell flat—many aspects of the world felt over-explained or annoyingly repetitive but yet i still didn’t have a good grasp on the limits of the character’s magics. the characters themselves also came off as way more “tell” than “show”, and i didn’t get attached to any of them. i think chopping 100 pages would’ve been helpful to tighten up some of the character development and pacing that was lacking
