 rep: Palestinian cast
tw: murders, blood, bombs, snipers

you could fill oceans with resilience and humanity of the palestinian people.

required reading, i think. absolutely gorgeous writing, poetry really; gorgeous idea, gorgeous execution. so this is the kind of art that living among martyrs makes people create!

of course, it's devastating, it puts to page all the horrors you see in videos from palestinian journalists, both almost as an after-thought and as the most important thing that has ever happened in human history. such a clever little book.

A lot was certainly lost in translation but I still enjoyed this one. It certainly achieved what it set out to do in telling Gazan stories, and I must say I love how “harmless” the story started off on the premise of a wedding.
Randa (or Lamis, who knows) is a character that will stay with me for a long time. Her catchphrase — “can I write this down” — reminds me the importance of documenting experiences, especially in the case of oppressed people like the Palestinians.

In our lifetime, may Palestine become free and may its people find deserved healing 🇵🇸

A very difficult book to read as well as review because I very often felt that the beauty and eloquence of the writing was being lost in translation.
I do feel if I could read and understand the book in Arabic probably this would be a 5 star book.
.
Also, the deaths and destruction the people of Gaza face on a daily basis is horrifying.
As a reader, it is easy to imagine it as fiction but what is truly heartbreaking is that these devastating circumstances are real life for people who cannot escape them.

.
May God make life easier for the people of Gaza 🇵🇸
