An extensive read and covers pre and post presidency. The one thing for me about this book is that I still can't figure out what this Jackass is all about. The author does a great job biographing and detailing Jackass's many encounters in business, politics and personal relationships with those around him. But nothing tells you what he believes in, other than only himself?

Is it just gratification he is looking for? He does possess some appeal or possesses sufficient appeal to a number of followers.

The one question the author does not deal with sufficiently and that is why does the Republican party follow him? I understand the extreme right, but the others? They've lost mid-terms and still stick with the Jackass. It is my belief that money is the main reason and Jackass has these Magats throwing money at him and whoever pays favour to the Jackass.

This should be required reading for all voters…granted most of his followers are illiterate.

I had very mixed feelings about reading a book with such repugnant content. Haberman should have revealed more when she was reporting on Tr*mp. It didn’t need to wait for this book. That said, it was still chilling to read just how horrific the subject of her reporting was. The sad thing is our memories are so short in this country we need books like these as a stark reminder to us all.

It humanizes Trump a little. It doesn't make me like him any more than I did before, doesn't excuse what he has done, but does make it clear that he is not some cartoon villain. He's a flawed human being. We all are. Unfortunately, he has had, and is having, an outsized effect on our entire culture.

BTW--I read the book on and off over the last few months. I checked it out from the library as an ebook. Every time I did not finish it by the end of two weeks, I had to get back on line to pick up where I left off.

NYT reporter Maggie Haberman has been covering Donald Trump for a long time. She tells the story of Trump in a factual and non-dramatic way.
