Amazing! Wasn’t sure if I’d love it since it is YA but it’s an empowering and heartfelt story that makes you fall in love with the characters.

A wonderful, real, heartwarming book that reminds teens (and adults) that kids are not just one-dimensional characters. Liz Lighty is an achingly human, accurately anxious, and sparkling protagonist meant for anyone trying to carve out a space for themselves in small towns (literal or metaphorical) everywhere.

I had the biggest cheesiest smile on my face for this whole book! So so cute! I’m not someone who reads a lot of fun happy stories, but this one was sooo good. It also handles a bunch of important topics (same sex relationships, chronic illness, grief, race, etc.) while keeping a super light and fun tone somehow. The voice was also so authentic to teens today which was awesome!

This was very cute, a sweet story! I didn't really understand the whole prom competition though.

Absolutely worth the hype, this is what I expect from a YA Contemporary - perfect blend of charm, humor, drama, and romance with one of my favorite f/f couples, a great supporting group of characters, and an extraordinary lead. So good, so glad I finally read it (narrator also did a great job).

This was a great book! This story is following Liz who has high expectations about about the future. First Liz wants to get a scholarship from Pennington and be a part of their orchestra. Then go to medical school to help patients with sickle cells. Liz has everything planned out until she received the latter stating that Liz did not get the scholarship therefore there is no way Liz would be able to attend. Though Liz along with Gabby and few others think of Prom, which would solve all of Liz's problems because whoever when's King and Queen gets a scholarship that would be toward the college they attend. So Liz takes on the challenge, but then Liz falls for Amanda. Amanda is out and is not ashamed of their sexuality. Liz wants to come out but everything is on the line and has to work perfectly. In Liz's mind when it comes to sexuality it could jeopardize all the chances especially since she is black and people already judge Liz of her blackness. Though Liz soon becomes confident and accepts the love for Amanda. This book blew me away and I loved it. I am definitely looking forward to read the next book by Leah Johnson.

I LOVED this. I’m usually not a big fan of contemporary romance, but most LGBTQ+ books are often contemporary so I’ll often pick them up and sometimes I love them but often times I’m just fine with the book, it’s nothing I’ll reread, etc. Every once in awhile though, I love every minute of it and that’s how this book felt. Liz is incredible and so true to herself. All of the side characters were dynamic and honestly I’m ALL about a happy ending in LGBTQ+ stories, especially since they’re surprisingly rare much like LGBTQ+ adult stories. Seriously read this, especially if you’re a huge fan of YA contemporary romance!
