SO good! I loved all the references to pop culture: Hamilton, Princess Diaries, Jackie Aina. I also loved the little insights into sickle cell disease, and I kept thinking of the Billie Eilish song (with the same name) while I read this novel. I would've liked more of Liz's friends Brit and Stone, featured in the storyline. Yes it's a little weird that prom is such a huge deal in this high school/town, but the story more than makes up for it in cuteness and squeals. I'm willing to suspend reality for a little while, to bask in Black joy in all its glory. I didn't know how much I needed this until I got to all the happy endings (the nice, non-sexual kind).

The audiobook narrator, Alaska Jackson was really good. Her voice brought life to all the characters. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who likes happy, funny, love stories featuring underdogs with happy endings.

This was such a wonderfully heartwarming book. The characters were so well written and easy to love. The conflict was realistic, genuine, always followed up with what’s necessary - whether a character gets their due comeuppance or people apologize and take accountability for actions. Such a sweet happy story

Trigger warning for homophobia, racism, anxiety, panic attack, chronic illness, public outing, loss of a parent, divorce.

I quite like this book! A lot of the factors are relatable or a great representation of what relationships are. I love Mack and Liz together, they're pretty damn cute together. I love the serious topics brought up in this; money struggles, sickle cell, stressing out about college.

I'm not good at giving reviews when I don't have anything to criticize. This book was so cute, so sweet, it put me in my feels and it had an absolutely amazing friendship group that I loved reading about.

This book somehow manages to nail what it’s like to have a chronically ill younger sibling, high school nostalgia, the stress of prom season, anxiety, and being queer all at once. Listen to the audio, Alaska Jackson is fantastic.

So I did NOT expect to like this book as much as I did. I've noticed that in general I'm not the biggest fan of YA books because I get annoyed at some of the obstacles that young characters have to go through. I guess I just can't relate as much anymore. That being said, that was not an issue in this book. I was so involved in the story and the obstacles that came from it the things that would normally bother me just didn't.

So our main character is an over achieving musician who doesn't get the music scholarship that she needs to go to her dream collage. But because her high school is way into prom they give out scholorships for the prom king and queen so she decides to run for prom queen despite it being totally out of her comfort zone.

There is a cute lesbian romance, a focus on friendships and self discovery. I loved it!
