This book started off as strongly as the first two in the series, but it quickly disappointed. There was very little immersion in the story and I was frequently taken out of it. About 1/3 of the way through, the author seemed to suddenly change the characters mid-scene in a way that didn’t fit with them to that point to force them to fit in a sharp frame of Pride and Prejudice, like she was ticking boxes. The first two books had Easter eggs and nods, done in a way that fit the characters and would make Austen fans go “aha!!”. This book shoved it down my throat that it was a retelling of P&P, and not in a way that I liked. There were some trouble aspects of the story and I won’t even go into the concerns of Wickham, or I’ll end up ranting. The last 1/4 of the book eased off a bit, and was certainly better than the middle.

Also, tell me you’re not a horse person without telling me you’re not a horse person. Ugh.
