This story is the best retelling of "Pride and Prejudice" ever done. Hands down, we can pack our things and go home because we have a winner.

I love the tropes in "Pride and Prejudice". I've seen at least a dozen movies based on the story and read an ungodly amount of books. I love the bantering, the lust, the confusion about loving someone, the need to ask for forgiveness after misjudging. I adore the enemies-to-lovers and hate-to-love, mixed with clever comebacks, smartness, and human weaknesses.
And I worship this book. It has everything that should be in a good, modern version of Jane Austen's book. And more. So, so much more.

And art. Jesus Christ, the art is so beautiful. I want this book on my shelf, only to stare at it, maybe pet the pictures in the moments of weakness. I literally squeaked seeing the cover for the first time and then kept squeaking every time I saw a new image on my e-reader.

I like the tiny changes made to make the story more "relevant" and the more prominent modifications to make it gayer. I'm happy that the author throws away the whole concept of marriage as an ultimate fulfillment and duty, in exchange for giving more spotlight to different shades of love. The family is still one of the most important things for the characters, but there are various family types, and all are important and valid.

I love the way how Charlie tries to find his happiness.
I love how Darcy is a father, and while being 45 years old he has to find new ways to be himself.
I love that Bennet has only one brother, and they lost their parents a couple of years before and have to find a way to communicate.
I love how riding horses is a significant part of the book, but not more important than playing Scrabble. (Yes, you heard me. Scrabble.)
Did I mention the bantering? I love how quirky the MCs are for each other, and how much they care about their loved ones.

Is the story silly? No, it has a lot of heavier topics. But in the end, it's still dreamy-like, cute, and fluffy, the big love story between a young, romantic, brave man and an older, more careful, and awkward father of two. We can find things that belong more to a fairytale than a contemporary novel, there are simplifications, and some things happen off-page - but maybe these are the reasons why "Bennet" seems so similar to the original.

And because of all that I don't care if there are some mistakes, time jumps, naive characters, or weird plot devices. I love this book with my whole heart.

Oh, and I need to read other books in the series. I need to read all of them immediately.

I received an ARC of this book from the Gay Romance Reviews, and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.
