It's just too hard. I don't understand what I am reading.
Whilst this book is very well written I found myself constantly thinking that this book is going nowhere. I would like to have thought that this book was trying to tackle wider thinking however I was somewhat confounded by the lists of names, statistics and other information espoused trying desperately to look interesting however it just led to nowhere. There just seemed to be pointless diatribe which whilst very well written just didn’t go anywhere.
I’m so disappointed in this book, perhaps I just completely missed the point, however great writing doesn’t make up for a story that doesn’t go anywhere.
Sorry, I really wanted to like this book.

One must be in the right frame of mind to read this book. And I'm not sure what that frame of mind is.
AN EXPERIENCE. The whole of August and half of September I spent on this book, like a mad person.
Maybe I will read it again ten years later.

A very difficult read -- unless you have a background in Shakespeare, religion, classics, and Irish culture, politics, and history, you'll have trouble keeping up. (If this is you -- go get Ulysses Annotated. It'll help.) But beyond that, this book is very detailed, thoughtful, crude, and artful. Well worth the time and effort to read it.
