I really enjoyed Cursebound (I read it in 24 hours, which is a good indication of how I enjoyed the story).
It's so easy to follow book, with incredible characters, oryginal magic system, and on top of that, elements of mystery and betrayal.
When I thought I figured everything out, there a new info that just blew my mind.
Faebound had an accurate amount of world building, where Cursebound a great setup for book 3.
Truly adore Saara's writing style, and I just can't wait to read book 3.

It's an easy read. Like any other Romantasy/ Pop Fantasy novel. Sometimes cute, a little too horny, and very easy to follow. Although I do enjoy the diversity of this novel that is not the norm for the genre and it really does enhance the story to have multiple queer main characters and an array of racial identities. Although, due to the fantasy setting it rings a little hollow. El-Arifi does make a point to have some inequality allegory in the novel so, I guess for the genre it evens out and is progressive.

Absolutely loved this book! Read this in 24hrs and loved every minute.

I also loved that things I expected to happen did as well as things I wasn’t expecting which made me feel that I was on the right track but that there was still some mystery. The characters progressed as I would expect and I just lived the added areas to the world.

Can’t wait for book 3 to be released!!

I feel like people saying this reads as YA are wild because the themes from the very beginning are clearly adult. Not every book about child soldiers or a strong fate based romance system are YA! I would put this novel up in the echelon of epics like The Poppy War trilogy and Saara El-Arifi’s other sprawling fantasy, The Finale Strife series. I am very late to the adult fantasy game but am THRILLED to have found an author who writes such subtle but powerfully motivated characters.

Yes, there’s the captor/captive trope but there’s also so much more to it than that. I’d like to see what people consider more adult fantasy than this work.

I love how she writes about the intersections of class and race through power and privilege granted through caste systems.

This novel will only seem small and trivial if you only focus on what’s happening through the characters individually instead of viewing them as all parts of a whole that reflect the power imbalances of the world she so perfectly and deliberately crafted. The power of the story is in the way that each individual view point is absolutely CRUCIAL to our understanding of the world. Idk, she hit it out of the park with this one and I’m dying for more.
