Tamsyn Muir, meet me in the pit. So I can give you a hug. And then sue you for emotional damages.

i'm screaming, i'm crying, i'm throwing up even more than harrow in the first 5 chapters of this book. gideon and harrow have forever altered my brain chemistry. i understand that these books are perhaps not for everyone, but they are definitely for me; every reality-bending, viscerally disgusting, brow-furrowing-inducing moment of this stupid lesbian necromancer and her stupider lesbian cavalier were for me, and i am wretchedly grateful.

too early to say for sure, but this book may have ruined me for other books? we'll see, but i have a bad feeling that anything else i will read that contains any of the following:

necromancy
swordplay
space
nonlinear storytelling
unreliable narrator(s)
enemy lesbians

will just leave me wondering why that book can't be her*.

*the locked tomb series

also the payoff of this book is CRAZY. if you are like 20% through and not seeing the vision and considering DNF, i urge you to carry on even if the 500 pages feel daunting. you won't believe your eyes when shit starts coming together, because so many pieces do. even pieces that don't, i am confident will be explained in the next two books, as there were many many setups from book 1 that made for some incredible reveals in this book.

i have so much more to say about this book but most of it is yelling. even the occasional ill-advised meme inserts couldn't mar this book for me! and that's pretty insane!!

Uggh, what can you even say about a book like this?! This series is so good. I swear, every twist in this book was so brilliantly written. The book is a little confusing at first but about a quarter of the way through, things start clicking. God,
(pun intended)
this book was so good. Muir's writing and storytelling is on a whole other level.

Two months into 2023 and I have definitely found one of my favorite books of this year. I wasn’t super ecstatic about the second person POV, but this book is so well-written and interesting that I didn’t mind it at all - I actually enjoyed it!

This book is filled with twists I truly never expected, hilarious dialogue and narration, and unique and interesting concepts. I read almost a hundred pages every time I sat down to read this, and found myself dreaming of the Nine Houses.

P.S.
Camilla Hect means everything to me.

Idk how much to say other than I loved it. Muir manages to somehow make being confused about what's going on fun, normally that would be a major turn off yet it somehow works, I'm going to be so sad once I finish Nona and have to wait months to potentially a year for Alecto to come out

Reread review:
Okay so I have even more of an appreciation for this book now that I have reread it. It is so insanely well crafted. Now knowing what was coming all the foreshadowing hit me like a brick. I don't want to give too much away but this book holds so many secrets and tries to get you to think it's doing a specific trope when nope! I just have so much fun with this book being a puzzle you have to unlock ❤️
This is also probably one of the darker if not darkest TLT book, I love them all for different reasons (they are all basically very different) but this one definitely played into my interests the most. So if I had to pick a favorite it is HTN. I am amazed by how much Harrow's book mirrors Harrow herself. The book keeps you in the dark and confused for most of it, which is what Harrow is experiencing throughout. But also it matches Harrow's character that we met in GTN, also trying so hard to disguise herself, the truth not coming out until near the end

That was an incredibly complex book to read. Almost too complex to enjoy. The narrative was really hard to understand and started only to make sense in the last quarter. Only my curiosity made me finish it.

If you thought gideon the ninth was wild, strap yourself in for a wild ride. Just when you think you understand what’s going on in the book, everything will be proven false.

I would say read the bits at the end if you haven’t already as they contain important plot info.

this is too difficult to rate at the moment, the series has my brain in a chokehold and it's so clever but also i was way too confused and the plot was... a bit wild at parts
