Overall enjoyed this read. Seemed to drag a bit in the middle but otherwise I liked the storyline and the characters

New rating (August 22, 2018): 4.5 Stars - additional half star!

It's been quite too long since I've enjoyed a completely new book, and I can't believe I've never heard of this until yesterday. I've been in a bit of slump for a while now, rereading old favorites just to satisfy my need to read something, so this has truly been such a treat. What a great way to kick off 2018!

Hmm more something between 3,75 and 4 stars =)
For Sam, robbing the house of a wealthy businessman aka Richard Addison was supposed to be a matter of routine. Except it doesn't go as planned and a bomb, one dead and one millonaire saved later, Samantha Jellicoe finds herself forced to seek help from Richard to escape the police and find out who wants to trap her ...
As I am a huge fan of stories with thieves, as soon as I read the summary of this book, I went for it !! And I must admit that on the thief's side, I was served =) The descriptions and all information about the supposed world of thieves but also about art were very realistic and I totally loved it ><
However, even if the author's style is pretty cool, I found that it lacked humor and fun stuff ... I wanted to laugh and finally, even if I liked the book, it was sorely lacking zest. The plot is complex or at least seemed complex, but the end was too easy (I quickly figured who would be the big bad villain ... Who was not quite big and bad actually ><)
The characters could have been nice but they lack depth and personality. Sam was the most interesting, a talented thief full of secrets who is forced to turn to one of her potential victims to seek help ... A sexy victim she gradually falls in love with ... EXCEPT that for a paranoid thief used to hide, she yields too easily (the thing with the press who takes pictures of her should have drive her crazy, and finally not that much ...) I wish she has more personality !! And Richard was supposed to be a millardaire who always want to control everything ... But he is sooo flat !! If someone told me that my security was crap and you can waltz in my super property as you please (to plant bombs and more) I do something !! (And the fact that we discover he is a lord at the end ... Well, it was totally useless xD)
In short, a fun read but no more =)

Enoch does historicals very well, this one just felt a bit too cliche and cheesy for my liking. I think there is something about the delayed gratification that is a result of the societal norms in historicals that makes the eventual get together so much better, the slow build is the best part.

In a lot of contemporary romances, they hook up too soon and it just feels very in your face. Nothing wrong with that in real life if that is your thing, but it does not make for a great story IMO. Characters are not particularly well developed and seem quite shallow.

Liked how Sam and Rick first met. Found Sam's background and current "occupation" a nice break from the usual heroines. Enjoyed seeing how his straight-shooter life would mesh with her more shady one.
