This is the kind of book I dream to write. Renkl builds such beauty around such mundane moments. You love and mourn along side her because the way she writes her family feels so personal. It's wonderful.

The writing itself was lovely and I really enjoyed the essays about people. I didn’t connect with the nature essays and found my mind wandering. For others, you may well appreciate all of this book, there is truly beauty in the thoughts and descriptions. It was just not entirely for me.

“the end of caregiving isn’t freedom. the end of caregiving is grief.”

I loved this collection of memories and musings. The family history mixed with the natural world, joy and loss. It is her style of writing that I could keep listening to - it paints such a vivid picture and also gives space for the reader to be present.
