I do not have words. I was cautious because of how much i adored reading powerless but i might even put this book even higher. This series has been my favourite thing i’ve ever read. I am not ready for it to be over and to have to say goodbye to these characters. Thank you Lauren.

I really liked it. I think it was a good second book in a trilogy. I do wish there was a little more to the plot though, I felt like I was trudging along to finish it.

Hoewel het makkelijk wegleest, voelt het echt als een herhaling van zetten. Niet een beetje, maar je hebt het gevoel dat je in een soort herhaling zit van hetzelfde gesprek keer op keer. Waar het eerste boek focuste op dat de hoofdpersonages elkaar haatten en niet konden vertrouwen, maar elkaar wel heel interessant vonden, gebeurt precies datzelfde nu opnieuw. Na de moord op de koning is Paedyn nu staatsvijand nummer 1, op de vlucht en Kai is erop uitgestuurd om haar terug te halen. Dat wordt dus een reis vol:
"Ik kan je doden wanneer ik wil."
"Waarom doe je dat dan niet, schat?"
"Noem me geen schat!"
"Wat, bang dat je het leuk gaat vinden?"
Een heel boek lang.
En als je naar een mooi afgerond einde toe werkt: laat dan maar. Want dat is niet alleen enkel 4 bladzijdes lang, maar zorgt ook alleen voor meer vragen dan antwoorden.
Waarom besluit Kai Paedyn uit te leveren en zegt hij daarbij dat ze maar zullen doen alsof ze niet van elkaar houden? Alsof hij een plan heeft, maar intussen levert hij haar tot aan haar vonnis zonder een vinger uit te steken? En dan denkt de schrijver een plottwist erin te gooien met dat Kitt haar niet doodt maar ten huwelijk vraagt? Wat wil dat zeggen? Er is geen uitleg over de beweegredenen van Kitt. Hoe is hij overtuigd geraakt dat dit een goed idee is, behalve dat het van Calum komt? Betekent dit dat de Nullen door dit huwelijk geaccepteerd zullen worden in het land? Geen info hierover, niks. En hebben we dan twee boeken lang naar de paringsdans van Kai en Paedyn gekeken om te eindigen met een mini hoofdstuk waarin Kai's wereld instort? Wat is mis met je?

If you’re look for a book full of adventure, this one isn’t for you. It’s very obviously a “middle book in a trilogy”, but as someone who prefers a little fantasy in my romance vs a little romance in my fantasy, I thoroughly enjoyed it

I loved this book. It's so beautifully written, too. The chemistry between Kai and Pae is breathtaking and has me yearning for more. I was daunting to finish this book because I had a hunch what would happen at the end - I was right. And luckily I have the third book already sitting in my shelf, though, I'm not sure if I have the strength to continue at this point. (I will anyway. I have to! 🥹)
I am scared to read the third book because I'm scared they won't end up together. And that in the most gruesome way it could've happened. With Kitt claiming her for marriage. (Death would also have been gruesome. Don't get me wrong. This is just a different type of torture. It's hard to explain, maybe you get what I mean lol) But one thing is for sure... Kai and Pae will always be tethered together, despite not actually having the privilege to be together. Yet, I still hope they will. (Praying for the best.)
Anyway! I can only recommend everyone to read it. If you liked 'Powerless' then I'm sure you will love this one too.
