Unfortunately my least favourite Le Guin book. Characters are in an interesting spot and Ged is complicated by the narrative here, flaws more apparent than ever. However, the plot is frustratingly uncomplicated and resolves itself too neatly which lets down the character work.

My favorite of the Earthsea books so far I think. Magic is seeping out of the world and those who practice it are slowly forgetting their powers. Ged, now Archmage and an old man, must find the source of this evil and care for the young ward who accompanies him on this great quest.

Great fun and exemplary of all of what makes Le Guin a wonderful author.

I think I liked the second book better but it’s still sinking in. The theme of destructive greed resonates at this point in time.

All too apt a book for someone in the throes of a mid-life crisis. I may not be ready yet to cede all power, retire to the forests of Gont and herd goats but perhaps I am beginning to imagine the attractions of such a moment, just a little.

My favourite from the Earthsea series so far! The last 4 chapters are excellent.
