3.5 stars technically, because my god most of this one was so slow and uneventful. I'm just super excited I finished this book in less than six months! Definitely looking forward to more Cayleb & Sharleyan interactions.

still having some confusion over references to characters by their first name, then their last name, then their title, though thankfully there is an index of characters at the back of the book.

I think the premise is wearing a bit thin in places... there's a few leaps that don't sit right.

Some great moments in this book but some of the plot points are a little unbelievable

Painstakingly slow story line, too many characters...............boring, boring, boring.

Awesome! Not as big on the epic battles as the first book, but the politics and characters are spot on. Weber is careful to move the plot forward at a realistic pace, given the constraints of the world he created. Highly recommended series for sci-fi and fantasy fans.

Notes:

This is one of the longest transition books I've read where not a whole lot happened. lol However, I liked some of the unexpected plot turns and may dive into the #3 sooner vs later.

Love this series. People complain about too much dialogue and not enough action, but the dialogue is necessary to the story and doesn't feel overly verbose.

Weber did a great job here. I really love his writing for the evocative battles, yet this book didn't have many --- what it did have was characters making important, honorable (and hard!) decisions, and making some stirring speeches.

This is the second novel in Weber's "Safehold" series; don't read this one without reading the first, and don't expect all the loose ends to be tied up neatly by the end of the book.

5 stars out of 5.
