I have always loved the Goose Girl, and I absolutely loved this book! There was a sad part that upset me so much I stopped reading for a while, but then I got back to reading, and the ending was so good!

Adventure, spooky forests, political intrigue, disguised royalty, conniving mages… there’s so much to love here! The magic system feels unique and the main character’s growth and arc are delightful. I’d highly recommend this one, especially to younger readers who are just starting to read YA fantasy.

Content notes: death of parent, war, violence typical of YA fantasy

On first impression, the heroine had a childish demeanor through the way she expressed herself. I'm hoping for some character development of what the outside country awaits for her. A medium-paced novel it was, as the flow of the story is detailed and with its subtle remarks leads readers to easily predict what comes next. I'm enjoying this book more than I'd ever imagined. There were scenes that were unexpected or that the readers could anticipate, and it makes me so happy every time. The world-building within the novel is really enchanting. The main characters are honed well, even with the villains that make you root for them. This book definitely adds up to another reason why I love duologies so much.

I really enjoyed this! I’m unsure of how to describe that I felt that this was her debut novel BUT for a first time author this was delightful! I really enjoyed the story and the world. I don’t think the relationship was entirely fleshed out, and I feel like there was more to the healer than was said, and (spoiler) the one princess thinking Ren was cute seemed a bit random? Also this freakin woman went through so much!! I dunno dude she could rally like a m💕🎁🐈🥰🥲☀️👍🏼😟😈😘❌. (End spoiler) overall I enjoyed this story and I’m really excited to read book two. And to see where this author goes and how she grows.
