I was shocked that it wasn’t a hard read. I thought the victorian English would be hard to get through but it was easy enough. Also, I didn’t realize how little Sherlock Holmes was going to be in it. That surprised me. Overall I thought this book was great! I can see why it’s a classic. I don’t think the ending was mind blowing, but it was still incredibly entertaining. I think I should get into more mysteries.

Doyle has a way at cheating you out of all the clues, but leaving you loving him despite it. This book is a perfect example. You have no way of knowing that SPOILER ALERT Stapleton and his sister are actually husband and wife. You know he's a suspicious character, but the details can only be known by a clue that Watson gets that the reader could not research in the text. Still, you never hold it against Doyle, parially because he is an early creator of the genre and partially because he gives you enough clues to get the basic gist of where the story is going.
