There's a reason this book is a classic. Finely crafted, well-rounded, without an ounce of fat on it, The Hound of the Baskervilles is just... a good, short read.
I enjoyed the writing- the diction, verbage, and 'oldness' of it. I enjoyed the variety of characters, the criss-crossing of plots and mystery, the masterful withholding of information until just the right moment. The characters were all defined and useful, the dialogue and narration never faltering, the mystery itself intriguing.
I recommend this book to any who like a good mystery, and to those who would like an example of a book where less is more. Written by a less diligent author today, I could easily see this book reaching over 250 pages. as it is, it barely cracks 175. Just reading it inspires me to write carefully and with more attention paid to the economy of words.
I will read this again.

The Hound of the Baskervilles gave me everything I’ve come to expect from a Sherlock Holmes novel: great writing, an interesting assortment of characters, and an explanation of the crime at the end that felt almost as elaborate as the rest of the story combined. Compared to A Study in Scarlet, it felt more streamlined and suspenseful, making it an easier read.
