Once again, I find myself saying that the movies didn’t do the books justice. There were so many hidden details that were left out of the movie that could’ve been added. I liked that Ginny had more representation in the book and because of the details that were revealed, I got to see how everything played out. The one thing that had me thinking was how you get to see how obsessed Voldemort was with Harry. He was obsessed with killing him and watching him die. It was almost comical to see this villain thwart his own plans to become the greatest sorcerer ever.
Finally, I like that the Weasleys got more attention in this book. I liked that interaction between all the siblings including Harry and just how close Harry is to the family. Looking forward to more :)

Loved the whole story, but the plot convenience in the final battle somewhat took me out of the story. I know it’s a young boy and he’s suffered enough but everything just seemed to happen so easily for him. I had so many questions on why Dumbledore sent the phoenix and the sorting hat and not himself. Maybe there was something I missed, but I’m sure it would’ve helped Harry Potter defeat the snake and Tom Riddle sooner. Other than that, I had fun with this and looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

This was another brilliant book by JK Rowling! I must say that this book is not one of my favourites in the series but I still absolutely LOVED it. She has so much talent in bringing all the small details to life. Even though the book is written about young children, I didn't feel it much while I was reading it as an adult. I felt just as absorbed and part of the journey. There is a lot that happens in this book and it is a thrilling ride. I can't wait to watch the movie again now! I had such a blast! This is a great book!!
In mijn herinnering waren de eerste twee delen van de Harry Potter cyclus het zwakste in de reeks. Op zich een perfecte introductie tot de tovenaarswereld maar voor mij begon het pas echt met The Prisoner of Azkaban en zeker de laatste delen waren erg tof. Het was indertijd ook gewoon erg leuk om mee met Harry en zijn vrienden op te groeien maar de herlezing van The Philosopher’s Stone deed me eigenlijk ook nog altijd heel veel deugd. Ondertussen ben ik meer dan het dubbele van Harry zijn leeftijd maar ik genoot er met volle teugen van.
En dat kan opnieuw gezegd worden van deze Chamber of the Secrets. Oké, opnieuw een redelijk kort boek waar het tempo erg hoog ligt maar juist dat is het goede aan dit boek. Het is een plot dat je niet teveel moet laten sudderen en sowieso vind ik de twist dat het Ginny is een beetje minder. Vroeger vond ik dat compleet uit de lucht komen vallen maar nu blijkt dat Rowling echt al wel van in het begin de juiste plotdraadjes (Lucius en de ontmoeting in de boekenwinkel) laat kiemen. Verder blijft vooral de originaliteit erg fijn om te lezen (de vliegende auto! de bewegende boom! de vakantie bij de Wemels met hun klopgeest en het opruimen van de tuin!) en worden hier ook een aantal personages geïntroduceerd die later nog erg belangrijk zullen worden. Dobby blijft een leuk figuurtje (dat “Master has given Dobby a sock, Dobby is free” is ondertussen wel ingebakken in onze popcultuur) maar ook Anderling, Perkamentus en co krijgen ook net iets meer diepgang. Ik krijg in ieder geval wel zin om binnenkort aan het derde deel te beginnen, want Sirius was altijd al één van mijn favoriete personages die uit de pen van Rowling zijn gekropen.
Vanaf dan is het ook in één rechte lijn (hoewel ik The Goblet of Fire nog wel wat taaier vond maar geen idee meer waarom juist) naar een hoog niveau. Ben benieuwd of Rowling dat niveau in bijvoorbeeld dat toneelstuk ook nog gaat kunnen vasthouden.. Ik vrees ervoor aangezien ik die Fantastic Beasts film al niet zo geweldig vond.
