I really loved the beginning and the end! The middle was slow to trudge through, but the rest was fun and kept my interest. Alina struggling with the darkness of her power was my favorite theme. The new members of the cast really shine, too.

I still feel like the nature of Grisha power is vague, especially for Alina and the Darkling. The limitations are vague, which makes the training and fighting hard to track sometimes.

Mal remains absolutely dreadful.

3.5 stars.
Had a tendency to drag and become a little repetitive in the middle - especially around Mal and Alina's relationship. The beginning and ending were strong though so am looking forward to the last installment.

The series continues to be just okay. The most exciting parts were the first few and last few chapters. I’m not really impressed with any of the characters or story. I’m still going to finish the series but gah lee
