What can I say; a book that quotes Pinky and the Brain gets a shout-out from the very beginning! Now, if you are anything like me, you’ve got the theme song of P&B going through your head.
This book is a love story told from the male POV, an animator male POV at that. So there are plenty of flashes of the comic book scenes from “The Big Bang Theory” but without the complete nerd overhaul. An adult contemporary romance, with plenty of chuckles and palm smacks to the forward moments that keep the reader involved with the story, the characters and the underlying issues at hand. Honestly, most adult books I’ve read have been female POV’s and I wasn’t sure going into this read how it was going to pan out, but I can happily say that it was wonderful!
Nathan has been swooning over Brooke for 2 years and one day luck is on his side and he is able to actually smooth his way into her life. First as a friend, than, well, you get the idea. As a reader, I really felt for Nathan. His embarrassments, his accomplishments, his everyday work atmosphere with those friendships. It was like I was Nathan and not having the wingman view, but 100% in his shoes.
A great read, especially if you are looking for something on the lighter romantic side, humorous but not lacking on conflicts. Honestly, as I read this I could envision certain actors in the parts and it read like a movie. A really, really good movie. I highly recommend this book and especially with all the cartoon quotes, comic book store scenes and included caricatures, it has sent my personal geekness in overload and I’m loving it!

Story line was generally ok - worth it as a freebie book. Although, I found it waaaayyyy too long for what it could be. As a self-professed geek, I get it, we're a different breed...but, it seemed a bit too forced to me. Like someone trying to "show off" geekery rather than really appreciating it. Seemed predictable as well.
os protagonistas são adultos mas agem como crianças, o protagonista principal é um nerdola insuportável... tudo nesse livro é brega e de mal gosto, detestei muito.
a única coisa legal do livro é os desenhos que tem no fim dos capítulos.

On paper this one looks like a disaster (yeah, it's P2P) but I couldn't help being charmed by this book. The obsession with cartoons isn't one I share, but I'm charmed by characters with obsessions, and Nathan was surprisingly charming. I can understand being put off by some of Brooke's behavior, but as someone who's been heartbroken by a few Brookes, I get it. Anyway, it's pretty ridiculous, but a fast, fun read that I found hard to put down, despite my intent to hate it.
Bonus Favorite Character: Arthur, Nathan's dad, is a wacky inventor who talks kind of like a Vulcan. It's so ridiculous, it's kind of wonderful.
Although I can't be Stern Internet Lesbian without noting that Nathan's final Monkeyman comic was mad rape-culture-y and shame on Brooke for encouraging it.
Loved the little illustrations. I wish there had been more.

“And all of the scientific data, statistical facts and empirical evidence can't compete with the indefinable heart's desire. For if in the end, she loves you, and she chooses you…none of the rest of this will matter.”

Although I love watching animated movies, I have no little knowledge about the magic that happens before I watch them in cinemas. Animate Me managed to open that door to me and I went out of it amazed. Although it wasn’t detailed that much, the part where Nathan explained the process already built mental images that left me in awe of the animators’ talent.
Nathan, the hero of our story is a full-fledged animation geek. He’s got the insane talent, the collection and knows the facts like the back of his hand. He was also having a hard time mustering up the courage to talk and make a move to win Brooke, our hero’s love interest. The way he was clamming up and cheering for himself to win his girl. His voice was amusing but the only problem I had was it felt a bit unmanly for a male’s POV. His internal monologues about how much he loves Brooke was so sappy, I had a hard time to get used to it and remember that this was narrated by a male protagonist. But due to its entertainment level, I decided to put it at the back of my mind and continue reading the story. Guess what, I enjoyed it.
Unfortunately for Brooke, I had a hard time understanding her personality and putting it all in one person. At one point, she’s so confident in facing Nathan and giving him instructions on how to win a girl but will lose it all and cry when she felt like Arnauld puts her down using his subtle comments.
Animate Me was an amusing and charming story, set in a unique world of artists and sharks who wants to devour these artists. This felt like a fairy tale written in a male’s POV, having a comic book-esque feel/them.

A lovely 5 stars. This book was fun but had depth. Nathan is a nerdy animator, not bothered about his look, clothing. He cares about two things though, his work (cartoons) and Brooke, his inspiration from afar for his comic super heroine B-girl. Brooke didn't know he existed but comes to value Nathan in many ways. I loved reading this, it built slowly but steadily and I was fully invested in these two characters. I absolutely loved the art work, what a bonus!
Made it 30% before I just gave up.
Writing is fine all in all. The characters are just one-sided, underdeveloped, and boring.

It was much longer than I'd anticipated. I liked the main characters, though the hero came off as borderline stalker from time to time. Also, I wish we could have seen Brooke's point of view.
