I liked the flashback stories in this collection where Maud is taking care of business, but the main event story about the safari in Africa was way too sappy and white saviour-ish to me. The cookie recipes were a nice touch.

This was a nice read and I liked how it was sectioned into shorter stories, if anything I wanted a bit more and found the ending satisfying, but abrupt.
I did really enjoy this and found it easy to pick up as and when.

3.75

This is an amusing story, and if it's not quite the "old lady solving mysteries" book I thought I was going to get, it was still a fun romp with a sassy older (89-years-old!) protagonist. Maud (our MC) is not afraid to kill people when she feels it's justified, and she's sometimes a bit of an unreliable narrator as well, so I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed reading her story.

I read this book without having read book one first, and while it was perfectly fine as far as my understanding of this book went, it did mean at least a couple spoilers for book one.

3.5

I liked it up until the very end. The last 30 pages really brought the rating down. I gave it a 3.5 elsewhere but Goodreads hasn’t caught on to the half star fun.

Maud gets very white savior-y at the end when she swoops in to save a random South African family she happened to meet. It’s just giving ‘Instagram in the summer of 2020’ vibes with the performatism.
