Audio Book Version.
This book was slow to start, I decided to stay with it thinking it's highly rated, it will be worth it. Sadly I disagree with my original thought.
Amber is in the hospital in a coma. She can hear everything and in the "now" chapters she is listening to her husband Paul and sister Claire and is trying to remember what happened to her and why is she in a coma.
Amber then - last week, you get to hear from Amber what lead up to her going into a coma, most of this is boring, barley necessary for the plot, could have been summed up in a few chapters fluff and filler to keep this book longer than necessary.
Then - This is back in 1992, a child's diary, you are assuming this belongs to Amber when she was 10 & 11 years old. These chapters while not very robust they did give way to what this child was going through, and they were written very well to be a child's perspective of what was going on in her life.

Now because this is a thriller you know there is going to be a twist, it is expected of the genre. Once the first twist happens I had to pause the book and think back to what I had already read and make it make sense.
I kept reading and there were more and more 'twists' that just felt forced for possible shock value. They were too unbelievable to be entertaining.
Then the ending, it just didn't make sense! What are you trying to accomplish here?!? I mean I get it, they are trying to say this person at the end was truly a psycho as well but it just was too much.
Entertaining for a while, too unbelievable to truly say I enjoyed it.

Easily the best book I've read this year. It's hard to believe this was the author's first book - the story was so enthralling and shocking, I absolutely loved it! I couldn't believe some of the shocking twists and turns - I'm not sure if I can still believe them, considering Amber is a big fat liar. I knew to expect some surprises, but not to this level. I can understand how some people were confused over the twists at the end of the book, but if you just follow very closely, it will all make sense. I do like how the biggest surprise at the end was left to interpretation - is it Claire or Edward that left the bracelet? Perhaps we'll never know, or perhaps it didn't even happen...

Once again, I was in over my head. I found this book to be very confusing. I don't have any interest in rereading it to see if I pick up on any of the clues as to who's really who, and who's lying, and who's not. It was compelling even though a lot of it didn't make any sense to me.
