It has its unbelievable moments for sure and I could predict where it was going/the twist though that may be because I’ve read from this author before. Overall, I think this is a story that’s interesting and keeps you turning the pages to see what could happen next. It’s a short read too so if you want a quick thriller that draws you in this is the one.

Please check your triggers when reading this as it was more graphic than I expected.

I accidentally spoiled the whole book for myself because I caught sight of a bit of formatting I thought was an acknowledgement in the back while trying to see how many pages there were...

Anyway, beyond that, there was too much happening in the book. Feeney tries so hard to spread the suspicion around, but it was almost a little too desperate. Also, most of the coma scenes were rather boring. However, the final ending came as a bit of a shock (I guess the last two twists?) and the chapters were the perfect length to keep you turning pages. I finished the book in essentially one sitting.

It'll certainly be interesting as a TV series, and I look forward to seeing how they adapt it to screen.

I’ll admit it up front: "Sometimes I Lie" just didn’t work for me. It felt more like a magic trick than a story and not the kind where you're delighted to be fooled.

This is the kind of thriller that throws twist after twist at you, not necessarily because they serve the story or characters, but because twists are expected. There were at least two (maybe three?) that felt more insulting than clever. The kind that make you pause and think, “Really? That’s where we’re going?”

Some plot points were introduced and then dropped without resolution or purpose. The imaginary friend, for instance, disappears from the narrative the moment she’s “explained” (if that can even be called an explanation). And the stalker “doctor” character? Clearly there just to mislead the reader and stir up some unnecessary chaos. His inclusion felt cheap, like an afterthought meant to pad the tension without actually adding depth.

The diary segments written by a ten-year-old girl didn't ring true. They lacked the tone or worldview of a child, and instead read like an adult trying too hard to sound precocious. And again, the diary itself was just another twist delivery system, not an organic part of the narrative.

Also... where’s the lying? The title promises deception, but we don’t get much from the narrator until the end and even then, it’s not the sort of twist that invites a meaningful reread. Are we supposed to go back and realize we were being lied to all along? Because if the clues are there, they’re buried under layers of melodrama and misdirection.

If you like thrillers for the sheer unpredictability of them or if you love being yanked around by unreliable narrators and triple-bluffed plots, this might work better for you. But for me, the twists felt hollow, the characters thin, and the storytelling too tangled for its own good.

Wow. So many things happened. Though I'm not sure I got everything right in the end...
