I wonder why the translator chose to translate the title as "My Fathers' Ghost is Climbing in the Rain" and not "My parents' ghost..."

I really enjoyed the story within a story format. Both in terms of the actual book and the questions of memory and disappearance that drove the various internal storylines. I wasn't convinced by the somewhat random interludes of dreams or movies.

I only picked this book up because of the StoryGraph reads the world challenge, and what a tragedy that is. I had never heard off it, and it deserves to be widely read and spoken about.
The book is based on true events, and semi-autobiographical from the perspective of our author. It’s difficult to follow at first, being told in fragmented strange pieces, but it comes together as the book goes on. The structure of this book serves a highly important purpose. About halfway through, I realised the book was deliberately giving you pieces that you had to try and fit together, to reflect the main characters experience and the understanding difficulty of atrocities, when many people never want to speak of those events again.
I was lightly aware of the Argentinian military dictatorship, and the crimes committed prior to reading. However I think l the book could be educational to those with no knowledge on the subject. For me it was educational to see the ongoing human cost and ramifications.
Much of the books overall themes is not specific to Argentinian history, but can be applied to many other genocides and crimes committed around the globe

O tanto que eu achei esse livro chato não está escrito. Só mais um homem branco reclamando de problemas que todo mundo tem e falando mal dos antidepressivos, prolixo, a cada parágrafo uma metáfora mais forçada do que a outra. Cansativo.

The book is really slow for the first 80% and then really picks up for the last 20%. I wish more time had been dedicated to that latter section of the story, instead of the build-up to the plot that dominates the other 80%.
All of this said, however, the story is interesting and gives a fascinating look at Argentinian history.
