Confusing and dull. Literally nothing to move the story along has happened up to the halfway point.
Nothing wrong with the book, just didn't like the characters and pop culture references.

I liked this book and thought it was beautiful and whimsical but I was also a little bored and never really felt fully engaged with the story.
This left me conflicted. The prose was enjoyable. The descriptions interesting... if massively overdone.
The romance was... not romantic.
The adventure was... confusing.
It's one of those books that feels like you should come out of it with a different view point. Life has a different color to it. That kind of thing. Except it didn't.
Sometimes it felt like a fever dream.
I had to start skimming about 300 pages in because I was otherwise never going to finish it. God did it drag on and on with unimportant details. It reminded me of when you are high and the wood grain becomes really fascinating... accept that was 99% of the book.
All in all it felt a bit pointless.

The story itself is very inventive and imaginative but honestly I got very confused and still didn't know what happened, what the Starless Sea was, how all the characters were involved, how time worked, etc. even after I finished the book.
