In the second novella of this series we focus on Social Worker Carly Taylor. Believing a kid has been falsely accused of dealing a lethal new drug she works to prove the kid innocent. This determination puts her at direct odds with her estranged husband Seth, the detective in charge of the investigation.
Seth’s constant worry and oversight of Carly as he believes her job is too dangerous is was drove a wedge between them to begin with. Even as this case becomes more intense and, in reality, dangerous, Carly still can’t see beyond Seth’s over protectiveness.
While I didn’t love this novella as much as the first installment Melinda Leigh didn’t fail to impress me by pulling me into the story so fast, especially in the limited pages of the novella.
Much like the first (and like all of Kendra Elliot’s and Melinda Leigh’s stories) there is a definite suspense/romance pattern here. As I’ve said before in my reviews of romantic suspense novels and novellas, if you don’t like the formula, don’t read. While it is quite predictable the plot makes for an enjoyable read that is fast on top of satisfying that need for some thrills without diving too deep into a story.
Overall I enjoyed this installment and I’ve already read the next.

I was excited to continue the story with a focus on Carly and Seth. I'm also really curious about how the investigation into the question of their father's death will continue in future novellas!
Gone to Her Grave
I’m a fan of Leigh’s work and this series is interesting with switching back and forth between authors. Each story is a quick read, but enjoyable.

This is from a series of novellas between two authors - Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot. They deal with the same problem but from different characters, sisters Stevie and Carly.
This is Carly's first novella and I really like her! She's a dedicated social worker who like her sister, is pretty darn fearless. She is dealing with the drug problems facing their small town as well as trying to navigate a separation from her overbearing (but trying to change) husband. She also has an adorable daughter who amazing with animals and has a goat named Prince Eric ❤

THIS REVIEW IS FOR BOTH THE AUDIOBOOK AND EBOOK VERSIONS
Thrilling and very intriguing. Again great very characters easy to like and enjoy. Please note that there is some triggers in this book that might be upsetting to some, but I enjoyed this book. The narrator done amazing job. I definitely recommend this book.

I like that most of these characters are continuing so we don’t have to meet too many new people with each installment. And we don’t have to worry about trying to figure out who the “bad guys” are as there isn’t enough time to establish multiple suspects!
