I feel like I know exactly what I'm getting with a Ruby Dixon book. To me, this was just like the Ice Planet Barbarians, but make it vaguely fantasy instead of vaguely sci-fi. It was weirdly long though?? Even when she had massive leaps of time??
It’s a good story…definitely a long epic tale, but also long….too long. Editing would have helped condense the story not lost anything.

Bound To The Shadow Prince is a standalone monster romantasy, where a prince and princess of two warring nations are locked in a tower together for 7 years to appease the Gods. To say that most of the book is just two characters alone in a tower for 60% of a 21 hour audiobook, I was never bored exactly, BUT it did definitely feel slow. I enjoyed the initial slow burn and it was surprisingly sweet. I liked Candra's personality - she's a self-described sexually confident tease, so she's quite fun!
But there were definitely some moments that the FMC did things because plot-wise she needed to be kept in the dark, like not asking the MMC certain obvious questions, and not asking questions of the magical knife which literally answers her yes/no questions! If I was kept in a tower for that long with no contact with the outside world, and a magical knife, I'd spend it asking questions with all sorts of varied phrasing to try and figure out what was going on out there. I mean, ALL she has is time!!
I went with a 3.75 in the end because it was an enjoyable listen, and there was a certain tension with waiting for the answers to materialise, but the way it was done was a little convenient.
