I feel like this story is a good intro for someone wanting to dip their toes into monster romance as it still leans more romantasy. I enjoyed the fact the FMC had a medical condition - this made for some great challenges and cute moments where he cares for her. Her people are absolutely brutal and I hated that for her. While I enjoyed this story, I absolutely felt like it was much too long. A natural stopping point would've been when they decided to leave the tower but at the same time, I understand the rest of the journey wouldn't have been sufficient for a full second book. But getting to where they needed to be next just took forever (at the same time, this was also realistic given the FMC's limitations haha). The twist didn't surprise me much, I'm intrigued to see where this will go.

The story had an interesting plot in the beginning but it didn’t go further in depth. The ending felt rushed and there wasn’t much character development between the main characters. Also, I didn’t feel any connection between any of the side characters, due to their lack of character development, as I felt like they were just thrown into the story but hardly had any impact in the growth of the plot.

Loved the premise, but it was just way too long and included plot points that were distracting without really adding anything. I love Ruby Dixon's stuff, just luke warm on this one.

Ruby Dixon is a favorite author of mine. That being said, I was really excited to read something completely different from her. What I mean by completely different is that this book is a behemoth, it is not fast paced, the main characters take more time to fall in love, the premise is kind of depressing (seven years locked in a tower?); do I need to go on? I'm used to quite the opposite from her. And what can I say? I fell in love. It proves to me that Ruby can write just about anything and I will probably find value in her musings.
From the very first pages I was invested in Candra, even though she was a spoiled brat. But she was a spoiled brat who progressed in the best way. She grew and matured in the ways that she needed to become the best version of herself, but somehow stayed true to her true being; i.e. she was still a spoiled brat and totally shameless, but not vapid and selfish in a heartless way.
I fell in love with Nemeth as soon as his green eyes made an appearance. To read about the upbringings of these deemed 'non-valuable' royal offspring and how they coped was pretty heartbreaking, but to see how they turned their lives around into something beautiful was really satisfying. The progression of the plot was surprising and kept me on my toes throughout.
