I did not love the book, mainly because I could not appreciate the characters and all their many flaws. I know I probably shouldn't rate the book according to my like or dislike of the characters, but it just made it very difficult to want to continue with the book. Maybe if the characters had some kind of enduring or redeeming quality, I would have liked the book better.
Blech! I just didn't care about these women. With limited time to read I bailed on this book and have no intention of going back to it.
Three generations of women from an Irish-Catholic family gather at their summer home in Maine. Not a light-hearted beach read, as the cover may suggest, but an insightful family drama of flawed, conflicted characters. The Cocoanut Grove nightclub fire scene was especially compelling.
