This is one of the most beautifully written books I’ve ever read.

dragged a wee bit near the end and frankly i could’ve done without a lot of the gross man dialogue, but wowwwww a stunner!! really lovely take on the six swans story combined with early british/irish history and mythology! very keen to see how this all continues

This was a truly wonderful novel. Marillier has taken a familiar, old fairy tale and breathed new life into it, and subverted some of the tropes; the characters feel deeply human.

This book has sexual assault in it. Having just read Empire of the Damned by another author, I am deeply tired of sexual violence in my 'for fun' media. I might one day circle back to this as I love Juliet Marillier's writing and gave Heart's Blood 5 stars

First off let me just start by stating the obvious this is an ADULT fiction book. Not YA, I repeat NOT YA! So for those of you what may have been introduced to Marillier by some of her YA work know that this book contains "content" as I've seen it referred to. I've read enough of Marillier's works to know that she is a story telling genius. I wish I knew more of Irish folklore to know if this is a quasi re-telling or if she's just incorporated elements of several stories to make this one, much like Wildwood Dancing.

I really enjoyed the story. I thought that it was well developed, although at times, a bit to wordy for me. It took me a good 80 pages before I was really hooked to the plot. There was one scene in particular that was very difficult to read but I understood why she choose to include it, it added to the story greatly. I wish I could say that I could be as strong as Sorcha. What an amazing woman! Wonderfully developed characters I loved them all. Although I'm not going to lie I, myself, was torn between the two brothers. Overall great story to read.
