I was going to wait and finish some other books I was in the middle of before starting this one but it consumed my brain from the second I first listened to the sample and promptly bought the audio. I absolutely devoured this book in just a day and now I need the next one yesterday.
Firstly, the audio is done sooo well. Joe Arden especially did an amazing job with distinct voices for each of the guys. I love duet narrations and this one is superb.
The story is quite dark and of course check the TW/CW. For those that like to read the warnings list as a menu this would the sampler with a taste of just about everything. Also, it’s best to assume everyone in this book is extremely morally gray. I don’t read nearly enough morally gray FMCs so Raven was quite the pleasant surprise for me. After surviving the most traumatizing experience of her life, she returns to the college, hunting down those responsible which leads her to a secret society of the elite including her own family. Omg the suspense!! It got me so good.
Besides digging for answers, Raven also discovers the all consuming connections of 3 equally obsessive men in her new life at school: her classmate, her professor, and her doctor who followed her as the new school councilor. They’re a balance of sweet, possessive, indulgent, controlling, depraved, protective, and infatuated with her. Not to mention that smut!! Despite all the blazing red flags, you really can’t help but love them by the end because every dark and twisted action is motivated by their inescapable addiction to her. Honestly, I have no other defense for them and I don’t even care. This is the type of dark romance I am always looking for. Gimme MORE.

This would have been even better if there was just slightly less smut and more Syndicate plot. I found myself skimming towards the end during spicy scenes to get to the rest of the plot. It got to the point where none of them could interact together without sex. It was overkill.
I love the revenge plan. I like that even though Raven was “inexperienced” she didn’t shy away from leaning into and owning her sexuality. I also like that she not only knows her limitations she also fights through them instead of being a victim. She’s resilient and strong. I have a feeling that Axel is a lot more involved in what happened to her. His guilt isn’t just from the fact he left her alone…too many things keep going back to him and Tyler. It also doesn’t make sense that she was sold to the Prescotts (specifically to Stephen it seems like) just to be targeted to die. I don’t think he would sign off on that.
Jonas is amazing. He is my favorite. Out of the 3 guys he is the one that accepts her, comforts her, pushes her, and protects her in a way that truly is real, unconditional love.
Damon is just a fucking creep dude. Like he needs a psych eval of his own. He treats her with kid gloves in the guise of counseling and psychoanalysis and he just comes off so condescending. Their relationship feels more like grooming than anything else. What he does with her knowing she’s semi drugged and lets her think it’s all dreams is so creepy and kinda violating. He’s predatory and not in the sexy primal way like Maverick.
Maverick.. he’s so rough around the edges and his brashness can be off putting, but he’s the one with the most growth. You can see how he slowly accepts that it’s not just sexual attraction, but real feelings. He softens for her, lets her in, lets the guys in. He still has a ways to go considering the ending, but I can see where it’s going and he’s going to have to battle his morals and philosophy.
The second half of this book had quite a bit of typos and missing words. The typos can be overlooked but the amount of sentences with missing words started to make it difficult to read. The pacing, the writing style, and overall storytelling was good. I like I said above, I would have preferred slightly less smut and more revenge/secret society plot.

~Speak~Rayne-Moore University Book 1~Ruby M Darling~
~Duet Narration~Joe Arden & Heather Firth~
~Produced By~Blue Nose Audio~
"No matter how much my mother wanted me to be a princess, I wanted to be able to slay dragons. Where other women wanted prince charming, I wanted the misunderstood villain."
♡Speak was my first read by Ruby & it consumed me from the start! I listened to this on audio & it was absolute perfection! This story has so much depth with twists & turns that will have you at the edge of your seat as you follow Raven our FMC on her track for revenge.
Joe & Heather were both outstanding in their performances. Heather brought our FMC Raven to life & channeled her darkness, vulnerability, & strength so well! Joe was absolutely phenomenal I still can't grasp how talented he is! He voiced our 3 MMCs plus every other male character in this story. If I didn't know there were only 2 narrators I would have thought each male character was voiced by someone different! Joe made it feel like a full-cast narration and it was impeccable!!
If dark, twisty why choose romances are your thing this book is the book for you! I haven't been able to stop thinking about it & I can't wait to hear what book two has in store for us♡
