As someone from a similar background, this poetry was an enjoyable mixed bag. Some of the poetry really hit home, and Roisin is truly able to weave gorgeous sentences together. Such as:
i’m beginning to accept
that wars of self have
always existed, and that
pain is important,
when not self-indulgent.
embracing its
ineluctable existence
However, some of the poems were a miss for me as I felt the structure at times was too loose, like a freeflow of randome thoughts stitched together. However these were few and far between.
I took my time to savour this book and it's poems, and think the author truly laid bare her soul in the pages very beautifully. I would recommend this book of poetry as one that intricately connects the past hurt to the present traumas, and how we are all interconnected in this. The topics are heavy, so do see the content warnings to avoid any triggers.
