A vivid board book with fun illustrations of garden words (roses, bees, etc.) that are paired with lines from Emily Dickinson's poetry (even quoting big words like evanescence!). I love imagining a child knowing bits of classic poetry early on, and always appreciate when kid books aren't dumbed down by diluting what they're supposedly referencing.

Perfect introduction to beautiful poems about nature. Dickinson was an accomplish poet who often used nature as her subject. Detailing the rising of the sun and what shape grass is expands young reader’s vocabulary and appreciation for the beauty of nature. The board book starts with a question encouraging curiosity in nature. Illustrations are whimsical and the verse is beautiful (although I think an opportunity was missed with A Narrow Fellow In the Grass). Would love to see some of her shorter poems printed in full in a compilation for kids.

Nature, curiosity, poetry, Emily Dickinson, garden, insects, spring, love of nature, vocabulary building, animal-recognition, plant-recognition
