A frothy story with some buildup (romantic, professional, digital) that ends up being resolved in a non-catastrophic way. Kind of a fun and interesting look at the goings-on behind a nascent (at the time) anonymous IG account. I wish they'd placed the story in time with the pandemic. I did get frustrated at the relatively naive decisions of the protagonist - in 2019 (I *think* that's when this started?) anyone who is young and on social media has enough savvy to know how to protect themselves more.

I did not expect to like this book very much, but it was actually quite enjoyable. I got through it fairly fast after being in a reading slump. I think parts of it can be very repetitive and kind of condescending. I felt a little confused at times because the narrator would talk about the high-class, famous and rich people like they weren’t them but then described their lifestyle as such. It’s very juicy though, and I think that’s what got me through it. There are 3 VERY unnecessary VERY sexual excerpts that made me uncomfortable and cringe a lot. That all being said, if you look at it through the lens of it just being a silly little book, it is good. I think in the future this book will provide a look into the 2020s that hasn’t yet been represented!

Having known very little about Deuxmoi before picking this up (I remember the Armie Hammer incident, and then some unsubstantiated rumors about Bieber), I absolutely loved this book. It was informative and fun, and made me feel like I was really there right alongside Cricket/Deux the whole time. The tone is dry, cutting, and exactly what I would have expected from the head of the famed gossip account, which constantly left me wondering exactly how much of it was real. Reading this book felt like watching an extra salacious episode of Gossip Girl in its peak, with a dash of 2020s realness that made it even more exciting. While at times, Cricket's personality could feel near-unbearable, I was still rooting for her 100% in the end — I just wanted to see her defy everyone's expectations and take the celebrity gossip scene by storm. This novel endeared me to Deuxmoi, even if I think I still might hate her? A fantastic read. Four stars and not five because I felt it dragged around 30-40%, but it picked back up.

I don't really know why I expected fun gossip girl vibes. Not much happens in this book.
