Loved this book. Slogged through it at times but Dr. Tom More is a treasure of a character.

Better on a second reading. It was much easier to appreciate this as a novel (not just a story with ideas) this time around. And it's fun.

Percy's writing about communion was the highlight of the book for me.

Grover Gardner might just be the perfect narrator for this book.

There's some brilliant phrases here, and the text is very readable, but it is far too long for too little substance. It's as if someone wrote a philosophical criticism of society-as-a-whole, then found out afterwards that their insight wasn't as deep as they thought, and tried to cover up the shallow-ness of it all with a healthy dose of obscurity.

It talks a lot about a lot of things without actually saying anything. But in his finest moments, the author describes a particular inflection of human behavior better than I've seen anywhere else.

I’m pretty sure this book deserves more than an ok rating. I really enjoyed the writing style. It just seemed like I was missing something the whole way through.

Great writing; very dated.

Alternating pace. Uplifting. Insane. All things I like in a story but not Percy's best.

I feel like I walked through a Kubrick movie while tripping on acid with a very high fever.

Maybe I’m missing something but this just felt like the dated ramblings of an older generation. Parts of it definitely have not aged well and the satirical/metaphorical aspects read like a less aware Vonnegut impression.
