Definitely one of those "expanding my worldview" books.

I loved this book! Every character had their own unique voice and their own story to tell. From a character's first line to their last, you are taken on an entrancing, beautifully written journey with them. Some stories made me cry, some made me laugh, and a few left me feeling speechless. I would highly recommend this to everyone!

I didn’t intentionally choose this as a vacation read, but it ended up being the perfect thing and I plowed through all 450 pages in less than a week. Some sections are tedious but most are delightful! All in all, a crusher. I loved it.

What a delightful read! It’s funny, lighthearted, ironic, and at times, surprisingly thought-provoking. The diverse group of women brings a wide array of perspectives, each with their own set of similarities and differences—whether it’s their viewpoints, opinions, lives, or privileges. The author seems to intentionally expose multiple sides of these characters, presenting them as kind, woke, or rebellious, only to later reveal a more complex side: sometimes uncanny, intolerant, childish, or even spoiled.

Some of the storylines are brilliantly paced, intriguing, and offer a refreshing take on characters we don’t often see in literature. The portrayal of the mothers—Carol's mom, Shirley's mom, and Hattie with her mom Grace—is particularly wonderful. They each bring something unique and heartfelt to the table.

Girl, Woman, Other moves at a terrific pace, and I enjoyed the narrative drive from one voice to another. Evaristo does an amazing job to make all 12 womxn feel very different from one another. The book is vibrant, multi-generational and with many fascinating themes and subjects. But...I didn't love it as much as I hoped. I think this is to do with the sort of story I prefer, because clearly Evaristo knew exactly what she was doing. But I would have preferred to have some space to take a breath in the present time of these women, instead it was nearly all back story and after a while this began to feel like potted histories and things that had me thinking, 'What! Wow!' were rushed over because we were on to the next bit of back story or the next character.

It's very hard for me to rate this book. First, it took me ages to finish as each story was intense and the themes explored deeply. It is not for sure an easy and relaxing reading as the style is also particular with no punctuation. Second, I do recognize the importance and literary value of the book which explores the identity of British-African women and problems related to intersectionality including gender identity, sexual orientation, age discrimination as well as relationships between different generations of women. I liked the ending and the message and how all stories finally converged together with a twist.

Spectacular. Ending was particularly excellent and unexpected in how it brought everything together.

Beauty, everything. This book is a backstory heaven if that makes any sense. Evaristo has an incredible talent of creating pieces in their own unique voices even though they all were written by the same author! Very poetic. The read was stable but harmonious.

Beauty of humanity is that there are so many layers to it and never identical among the people in this world. The characters in this book all had different experiences of what it was like being a female, and what struck me the most was that all of those experiences are valid whether I like it or not. To be a feminist is to accept feminine energy in all forms (even those who don’t acknowledge “female pride” or whatever) because we should only want see one another grow instead of tearing her/them down. Finishing in time for international woman day!!!!
