The writing style of this story read to me like prose. It started and ended with a play in London, with the attendees’ stories made meaningful at the end. I felt I was learning so much throughout, including British history, blackness, queerness and theatre. 12 different women seems like a lot to keep up with within one story, but the author kept hold of the complexity by weaving their lives together. This provided perspectives that only became clear once one stopped telling their story and they were revisited within someone else’s story.

Richtig, richtig tolles Buch! Das Layout war für die ersten paar Seiten kurz gewöhnungsbedürftig, danach aber gar kein Thema. Die Art und Weise, wie die Geschichten der einzelnen Personen ineinander verstrickt wurde, ohne die Individualität der einzelnen Erzählstränge zu verlieren war wirklich gut. Ich hatte bei keinem Charakter das Gefühl, die Person kommt zu kurz oder wird zu oberflächlich behandelt. Natürlich gibt es Charaktäre, die einem auf den ersten Blick sympathischer erscheinen, trotzdem konnte man die Entscheidungen und Gedankengänge aller Charaktäre nachvollziehen und mit ihnen sympathisieren.
Es ist jetzt ein paar Tage her, dass ich das Buch beendet habe und ich denke immer noch dran. Das passiert nicht bei allen Büchern.

the first half was really good but than it just went out about women being disappointed about their husbands, which I didn't find interesting enough to go through another 130 pages.
