Unfortunately I could not connect with this book at no fault to the author. I really value character development and need to spend a lot of time with a character to begin to connect with them and their plot. With the short-story set up of the women of this book, I just didn’t “get it”. Feminine themes are typically something I enjoy reading about, and I would’ve loved to have had a whole novel with some of these characters.

DID NOT FINISH: 7%

Found the writing style really distracting. The decision to not use punctuation marks made it difficult to follow what was happening

A reluctant 4 star. While there is brilliance within I had a hard time getting through it. Found it hard to relate to any of the women and my curiosity just wasn't piqued. Lots of tragedy didn't help draw me in though it did make me sympathetic

4.5 - waited too long to write a review to have meaningful thoughts but I really loved the experience of reading this. I'm a sucker of little vignettes and interwoven stories, and this did that so beautifully. It was so fun piecing together how they were all connected, and I appreciated that all of the characters were flawed and felt real. I had a kind of hard time remembering characters names (and actually doing that piecing together), though, because we were with each of the characters such a short amount of time. I would have loved a little character guide or something that I could refer to.

Spectacular! Made me think of Gloria Steinem's (paraphrased) quote: "God may be in the details, but the Goddess is in the connections."

Goodness, this took me a while to get through! And I think there’s good reason for that - each chapter is a new character, and you delve deeply into each character’s world. It makes this book really rich, but also a bit difficult to get through and keep picking up.

That being said, the writing is really good! I liked the wide range of perspectives, though I do think a few of the last chapters felt rather similar to each other (but maybe that’s just me getting used to how the author writes? (Then again, it’s still on the author to make their character’s voices and stories different enough so that they don’t run together like this… hm.)). An enjoyable read.
