None of the characters in this book felt real or relatable. The author tackles race, feminism, poverty, domestic violence, gender, climate change all at once. It felt like far too much to take on in one book. It left the characters shallow and impossible to like, and the connections between them tenuous at best. Her portrayal of younger characters in particular felt harsh, hurried, and poorly researched.

I was unsure at the "little punctuation" format at first, but the content is strong and moving, making me overlook the "arty" layout choice.

I loved the intertwined nature of these stories, which were all unique in how they gave us a glimpse of the characters' lived experiences. The ending was incredibly fulfilling and I'd love to see this as a TV series too! There's substantial intellectual commentary in here on race, feminism, queer identity, etc. and I learned a lot from this book. Apart from covering poignant subject matter, the stories also felt incredibly relatable and accessible. Bernardine Evaristo is an absolute force and I can't wait to read more of her work.

I have had this book on my to be read list for a long time and I am so glad I finally listened to it. The audiobook was a lovely one and the characters are rich and interesting
