You ever love someone so much you want to eat their cuticles?
On the surface, Y/N seems to be a critique of the para-social relationship of we have with celebrities/characters and fandom culture as a whole. But somewhere in this surrealist mess, it feels like the text is trying to say something more profound about the corruption and unknowability of love, art, and maybe even God. Are we crawling up the Mountain of Purgatory, corrupting the meaning of love as we attempt to glimpse a God who will only disappoint us by not resembling our idols? Or is this just some Sad Girl Lit™ disguised as pretentious fan fiction? I have no idea. At times I thought it was genius before the narrative would yank me in another direction and just drag into the boring. I enjoyed this read and its exactly what I thought it was going to be, but thats about it.

maybe the harshest rating i've ever given a book lmfao i'm sorry....what the hell was this... 90% pointless and the build up to the end was not worth it. I found it so tedious and boring at the same time.
i can't believe i haven't rated this book OH MY GOD there is so much to say but just. not enough space.
as someone who's been immersed in fan culture for a very long time, this book is. an interesting pill to swallow. it runs into this very common wall i see in books about fandom where it's supposed to be read as a satire but it's clear the author doesn't really have empathy for the the subject matter it's satirizing. i was able to get lost enough in the prose that i could thoroughly enjoy it start to finish HOWEVAAA i don't know if id recommend it to people looking for a good fiction book about fandom.
i definitely walked away from this book learning the wrong lesson but

Thin ice. I was so excited to read this when I first heard about it, but as I read it kinda got a bit boring if I’m being honest. The parasocial aspect was creepy I will admit but I didn’t really finish towards the end. Also maybe since it was based around a Kpop idol idk if that was a takeaway… but overall I didn’t really fw it…
