Elizabeth Peters is my favorite author. However, every time I read this one, I groan a little. Amnesia as a plot device? Really? Still an enjoyable entry in the Amelia Peabody Emerson series, though.

This was delightful. I laughed out loud many times. Emerson loses his memory, which brings a fun tension to the book and the relationships. While I didn't see the solution to the mystery coming, it was complicated enough that most readers will find themselves right in some way. The egyptology was not a major point here, though, and the story took awhile to get going for me.

Not my favorite Amelia Peabody, but I have a personal hatred of amnesia stories, so I think that may just be me. I also wish there had been more Ramses!
