Couldn't care for the heroes, as I couldn't pass through what Colin did in books 1 and 2. Simply unforgivable for me, especially what happened at the very beginning of book 1. Can't blame Viscount Ashbourne being uncapable to forgive him. Thanks to audio for helping me get through it.
The only plus sides of this book were to see again Victoria & Lucien, and Jane & Harrison happily married.

This was just okay again. I'm still waiting for the amazing book in this series. I hope the next one is it--has a tall redhead as heroine so I'm excited. This book was nice to move the series along but very low on angst and steam.

Definitely an improvement in the story structure as it's not all just "I'm so empty and unfinished if he's not inside me"(eye roll) these characters were by far the most interesting so far in this series. Though I imagine Colin wouldn't be as interesting without the backstory fromm books 1-2. Might continue the series, but i'll wait a few days and see how I feel then.

I notoriously hate the redemption arc. Especially in a series where several books have set up the terrible cad and what he has done to the other characters you have come to love.
Colin was a bit more tragic, even from the start. You know that something bad happened and he has spiraled out of control. His brother and sister have been attempting to cover for and/ or save him.
I loved the fact that this heroine has a school for young ladies that was started by her father, the former parish vicar. Her father's decline has put her and her mother in a bad spot but she refuses to cow to the town creeper. The creepy guy had real vibes of the bad clergyman in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Disney Version). I could see him singing that damn song. Anyway, she does not know how she will extricate herself and her mother but she's going to.
Colin does not feel that he deserves any redemption. Yes we know some of his secrets but his flippancy toward women have caused some irreparable damage. And now that his sister is married into the family that he so wronged, he needs to be away. The fact that someone wants to kill him is just a side story.
The redemption is a good one and I believed Colin was sincere. I enjoyed it more than I expected to. The book itself was just good, not great. I liked it but didn't love it.

Colin was a terrible character in the first two and there wasn’t enough going for the 3rd to make me push through

After disliking Colin Lacey very much for the first two books, the redemption arc he gets in this one is dramatic and satisfying. While the claim to scoundrelhood for the last two male leads were poorly designed revenge plots and coldness of demeanor, respectively, Colin has indeed been terrible to the people in his life. Sarah, the heroine, finds him nearly dead after a close call with the ghostly hand of the person who has been controlling London’s underbelly and evil deeds. The ensuing connection between the two characters and the future they’re able to build for themselves is a lovely legacy that gets revisited in later installments of the series.
