The book I didn't know I needed. This is a wonderful story about an incredible community of boys, men, their families, and school. I appreciated learning more about the history of deaf culture and language. There is quite a bit of play by play breakdown of games and, as someone who doesn't know much about football, that was sometimes tedious. But the story of this team and all they accomplished, the brotherhood they built, was heartwarming and beautiful.

I love football and I love an underdog story so this tale of deaf high school footballers was a good one. It probably won’t work for you if you don’t care about sports because there’s a lot of in game play by play.
Fascinating to learn more about deaf culture and history as the sports story unfolds.
Enjoyable all around but I’m not sure I’d have named it book of the year.
