pirates witches magic and and underwater world- this books is everything our younger selves could hope it would be as adults!
I do wish the love triangle was able to evolve more in this book
the world building was beautifully written and makes me excited to start the second book
the whole time i read it i kept thinking about how great this book would be as a tv show or movie!

However, I still found myself enjoying the character arcs of Amare, Shoa, Lukas, and Maoke and wanting to see where it all goes. The first half of the book felt a little slow to start, but about midway through it picked up and became a bit more compelling in my opinion. So despite my gripes, I'm still excited to see how this journey will unfold and what secrets will be revealed in the coming books. As a side note, I just finished this book about ten minutes ago and should be picking up the next two books tonight, I'm excited to pick up where I left off!

This book contains themes of violence, neglect, trauma, massacres, lies, betrayal, deceit, death, losing one's mind.
If you are a sensitive reader, this book may not be suited for you.
In many ways, this book reminded me of The Little Mermaid and I loved it. The full story, of course, was very different but it had similar vibes.
We see a lot of character development of Amare throughout this book as she learns more about her true life and ancestry. There were still many secrets left to be uncovered that had not been entirely revealed to the readers or to Amare.
The ending of the book just left me with so many questions that I hope will be answered in book 2. I need to know more about Amare and Maoke. Who is really telling the truth? Who is really the villain of this story?? I'm desperate for answers

This the first book in a YA fantasy series. I really liked this story. It is about a girl whose parents die in a shipwreck and she is raised by the first mate. She spent 17 years on a pirate ship and as the only girl she was protected but also confined. Everything changes once she touches a magical horn. Few days after touching the horn she is different and when a storm comes she jumps from the ship to what she believes will be her death. To her surprise she does not drown but awakes in a palace in palace underwater. Her Father is the King of the city. Amare’s life has completely changed and now her true adventure starts. There is magic, coming of age, and a prophecy!
A big thankyou to Netgally, Author and Publisher for the ARC audiobook I greatly appreciate it.
Wow!!
This was an amazing book.
I was hooked all the way through this pirate adventure fantasy.
The audiobook version was engaging and action packed. The speaker did very well and was engaging the whole story.
The Sunken city gave me Pirate of the Carrabean vibes as well as Atlantis vibes.
Definitely one of my favourite fantasy books.
And bonus it is a series so more to look forward too.
I don't like to give spoilers but I highly recommend this book it was amazing!!
How am I meant to sleep when I am still living in the Sunken city.
Lol

For anyone who loves TVD - this is a must read! It's the first book in a Fantasy series but Emma Noyes does so well with the world-building that I didn't get lost and I didn't get confused.
Amare's story is a great read. It's a bit more YA than I'm used to but that's definitely not a bad thing. I needed a break from the spicy romantasy books I've been reading! I wish we had gotten just a bit more depth for the other characters in the story (like Cora) but I love the friendship between Amare and Shoa! I look forward to learning more about the magic system, too!
Overall - I really enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to the next one!
