This book is another book that like everything could’ve been fixed with the smallest bit of communication and honest to god it was her fault lol. Like she walks away from the dude 3x and every single time she leaves without letting him explain and every single time he has a reasonable explanation that makes sense. Like yeah, he fucks up, but not to the point that she should cut him out of her life completely like she tries to. Then she goes back to him and is like ???? Why don’t you want me back???

the only good thing about this book was the budget increase

ngl this was pretty disappointing. i've been a lylah james fan since her wattpad days and i absolutely adored her mafia and his angels series. so in short, when the first book of this duet came out, i bought it immediately but didn't get a chance to read it until now.

the first book was alright, i enjoyed it but the second book... *cough* *cough* where do i start? first of all, i could see why people would like this but i sadly didn't fall into that category. maddox and lila had my attention through and through the first book and i was excited to see their relationship as a couple in this book further but i. just. couldn't. feel. it. the whole thing felt like a refined wattpad book and had predictable tropes that made me shake my head and go "seriously, lylah?" don't get me wrong, this wasn't a bad read, just really disappointing.

Oh God! This can’t be the conclusion. I NEED MORE OF TEAM MALA! This book was soul wrenching. I cried my balls out throughout the book. It was like a knife plunging into my heart excruciatingly slow, killing me by the second. THIS BOOK IS EVERYTHING. I wanted to laugh with the characters and at the same time spank them really really hard.

Thank you for this book, Lylah.

“Four years ago, I played a vicious game – to break Lila. Today, I started a dangerous one – to win her over.”

For those interested, book one’s epilogue/cliffhanger is a scene 62% into this book. That scene had led me to predict that book two would include a big time jump (+1 years) early on, during which Lila and Maddox would be separated, but that wasn’t the case. Instead chapter one picks up the morning following their night together in Paris. And thus begins the romance steamy portion in this enemies-to-friends-to-lovers duet.

“Maddox Coulter was my hell and my haven. He killed me. I killed him. We were the cure and the plague. The poison and the antidote.”

If you’re like me, and you adored the slow-burn of the last book—which focused on developing and growing the close bond between Maddox and Lila as friends—then you might feel a bit deprived as the steam factor takes center stage in this one. I spent all of book one feeling that they belonged together, but once they actually got together in this book they lacked that je ne sais quoi.

“We were not an incomplete story or a half-written page. We were the whole goddamn book, and I needed her to see that.”

This book can be summarized as: excessive and avoidable relationship drama due to poor communication, assumptions, and good intentions. Seriously, the second half of this book went overboard with the angst. On more than one occasion I felt completely lost; the characters would vaguely reference something that we the readers weren’t privy to, but in a way that felt like we should know what they’re talking about. This wouldn’t have been that big of a deal, if it wasn’t for the fact that the “vague references” were in relation to why Lila and Maddox made the choices they did leading up to, during, and following their separation.

“Lila wasn’t a monochrome in my black and white world, she was a kaleidoscope of colors.”

There was an excessive amount of grammar mistakes—mostly missing words—but I wasn’t too bothered by this since I found the writing quality more than made up for it.

If Do you Dare was good then this one was the best. Is it okay to say that I love this one better than the first one? There's a few hiccuped at their relationship but they managed to overcome it. At first, Maddox might be a jock but he turn into a romantic kinda of guy as he tried his best to court Lila. Lylah James did not disappointed. One of my top read this year and you are one of my favourite author. I received this ARC in exchange of honest review.

I have mixed feelings about the conclusion to this duet, but I still liked it. FRTC maybe.
