The Things We Leave Unfinished surprised me in the best possible ways.
Despite my usual aversion to military-themed stories, this dual-timeline novel managed to pull me in completely. The historical WWII narrative, which I initially approached with hesitation, ended up being the most compelling aspect of the book.
While the present-day romance between Noah and Georgia felt somewhat rushed in its development, Yarros demonstrates her versatility as a writer. The story delivers a satisfying romantic journey with an unexpected twist that adds an extra layer of depth to the traditional happily-ever-after ending. I experimented with both ebook and audio formats, finding the female narration engaging while the male portions worked better in written form.
Throughout the story, genuine moments of humor helped balance the heavier themes.
3.5/5 stars - A solid blend of historical fiction and contemporary romance that proves good storytelling can overcome genre prejudices. Even with some pacing issues, the compelling narrative and surprising revelations make this a worthwhile read.
