The story/plot is quite good., but is ruined for me by the poor writing.

As with all of Yarros’s work that I’ve read, it ripped me open and then attempted to piece me back together at the end. This one was slightly less heart-wrenching, not because it wasn’t painful to read but because it felt like what was expected to happen. Of course, there was still a twist that had my jaw-dropped and eyes wide, staring at my partner like a freak while he giggled at me. All this to say, I absolutely loved it. Only missed five stars because a part of me felt like I knew what was going to happen.
