I had so much fun with this! The audiobook was really well done too, with different narrators for the different essays which helped distinguish the different stories. I really appreciated these personal stories and experiences that reflected on horror movies through a queer lens. It was so fascinating to see how these different people related themselves or their experiences to different horror movies and characters (protagonists and antagonists)--both positively and negatively.

Some of the essays were wonderful. However too many were tangentially about horror, as if the writer was shoehorning the topic in because it was part of the assignment.

The connection that people had to various horror movies and their sense of self was extremely interesting. I love dissecting films into different meanings, but on my own watch through I can never think of any of the hidden meanings. Seeing other people's autopsies of their favorite movie is just a real treat.

Solid collection of essays and analyses of horror, queerness, and the inherent queerness of horror. Lots of solid ones, some middling, and very few that left no real impression on me. Would love to revisit by watching all of the movies especially the foreign ones.

75% of these are huge stretches on being even related to their chosen horror movie and all of them are weak queer navelgazing.
There's not a single standout because strangely they’re all the written with a similar cadence.
I will say the low-point was definitely the story where the author admits they never watched the original The Blob in an essay about The Blob and in which they shit-talk the original The Blob.
Laziest writing I’ve seen in a while. Remember just because something means well doesn’t mean it’s done well.
