Hazel has one plane: to go to America and work to provide money to her family. Her one problem: she can’t afford a ticket. In an act of desperation, Hazel decides she only has one option—to stowaway on the ship. By hiding in luggage, Hazel succeeds… she makes it onto the Titanic.

With any Titanic story, I’m prepared for tears. However, I found the plot surrounding the characters really compelling—an interesting look at class divisions with references to the classic story of the Titans. Though there does have to be a bit of suspension of disbelief, this was such another great historical fiction novel from Jennifer Nielsen!! I know many kids will enjoy this one!!

Once again, Jennifer A. Nielsen has completely blown my mind. Her writing is so beautiful, and upon picking up any of her books, I immediately become immersed. Iceberg was no exception. The depth of the story was truly astounding, and the characters were so beautifully written. While Jennifer A. Nielsen was already my favorite author prior to reading this book, this did nothing but confirm that.

Iceberg, along with Jennifer A. Nielsen’s other historical fiction books, are of such an extraordinary and awe-inspiring quality that I genuinely can’t wait to share them with my future children one day…they’re that amazing.
